Therapeutic Exercise & Neuro Re-education
Movement is Medicine
Our treatments are so much more than just “exercise.” All our patients report how much the learn during our treatment session on the importance of movement and feel empowered with their programs to assist in healing themselves.
Physical therapists have the ability to identify physical impairments across various body systems (integumentary, musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, neurological, endocrine, genitourinary) that may be contributing to dsyfunctional movement, such as muscle weakness, limited joint range of motion, limited oxygen exchange, or impaired motor control.
Your Doctor of Physical Therapy will design a customized program for you to complete that are crucial for appropriate healing and prevention of recurring injuries. Our movement experts will ensure your activities are specific to your needs and goals to accelerate your healing time and overall wellness.
Custom Orthotics
Pain & Movement Solutions offers Vasyli Medical Custom full length, high performance orthotics with biomechanical control as an affordable and and effective alternative to traditional plaster cast orthotics. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy will perform a professional analysis of your specific foot condition and create custom orthotics specifically designed for your feet. Orthotics can assist in decreasing heel, foot, knee and back pain.
Kinesiotaping
Kinesiology tape is an elastic therapeutic tape used to support the body’s natural movements with full range of motion. It can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.
In contrast to traditional athletic taping, Kinesiology tape does not restrict movement and lymphatic flow. The tape mimics the elasticity of skin and muscles and lifts the skin from the underlying muscles, creating more space for fascial connective tissue.
The kinesiology tape is cut specifically for the patient’s condition and stretched to different lengths depending on the desired result. The tape is applied over muscles and joints to support the correct movement pattern and posture.
We use this technique for a variety of conditions. You will commonly see it on Olympic athletes, and our athletes often have positive reports for it assisting with pain management, stability and motor control. We also find it very effective in reducing swelling in joints following ankle sprains, hamstring strains and total knee replacements.
Gait Training
It is difficult to learn how to walk again is the one of the most common phrases we hear when people are recovering from pain, injury or surgical intervention.
Our bodies utilize compensatory strategies in response to pain as a protective mechanism. These compensatory patterns can lead to dysfunctional movement patterns that when prolonged can create other pain and injuries as response from excessive force and repetitive strain on other joint structures.
Gait training is a set of activities that are specifically implemented by your Doctor of Physical Therapy to improve your walking pattern. The exercises involve improving motion in your lower extremity joints, improving strength and balance, and mimicking the repetitive nature of your legs that occur while walking. Improving your walking pattern can be effective for reducing pain, increasing balance, mobility and agility while decreasing your risk for future pain/injury.
Traction
Pain & Movement Solutions offers mechanical, computerized traction for spinal decompression of the cervical or lumbar spine.
Traction can be effective modality for the treatment of back pain due to:
- Disc Herniations
- Disc Bulges
- Lumbar Stenosis
- Facet Syndrome
- Arthritis
- Sciatica
Spinal decompression uses a FDA-cleared therapy traction device that uses a computer to traction the spinal disc at a specific tension. The negative pressure created on the disc during traction can asist with rehydration and healing to the disc, while offloading irritate joint spaces. Each treatment lasts about 15 minutes and is generally painless. Most patients find it relaxing.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrical muscle stimulation is an electronic modality that can be used to relax muscle spasms, decrease pain and block nerve sensation to assist with pain management. At Pain & Movement Solutions, this modality is utilized to assist with pain management and to accelerate recovery following treatment sessions.
Patients may also purchase home TENs units to assist with pain management at home. Your Doctor of Physical Therapy will assist in set up of your home unit and instruction in appropriate and effective use.
